Calibra was brought in by the technical department of a global championship to help investigate accuracy issues with fuel line temperature probes. Using its high-precision calibration process, Calibra was able to pinpoint the source and magnitude of the measurement error across the temperature range and provide appropriate correction factors.

A leading OEM was able to exploit the extra accuracy in fuel consumption measurement afforded by Calibra’s calibration of Sentronics fuel flow meters in two headline race series to achieve championship-winning improvements in race strategy and results for its factory teams. As a result, one series banned the use of such sensors and the other adopted them as mandatory!
Custom Calibration
To facilitate the detailed study of fuel flows in its FIA World Rally Championship™ engine, a major OEM turned to Calibra to conduct a fine-matrix UKAS calibration of its ultrasonic sensors. This allowed the OEM engineers to investigate the effect of rallying’s highly transient vehicle dynamics on the behaviour of the fuel flow, separately from the known baseline flow characteristics and flow meter measurement uncertainty established by the calibration process.
Combustion RESEARCH
A top UK technical university undertaking research into engine combustion for a global OEM using the Sentronics sensor wanted to achieve a better understanding of small-scale and transient flow events in the fuel system generated by RDE regulatory drive cycle testing. With the help of a finely-incremented calibration matrix from Calibra, the school’s engineers were able to visualise and quantify these events with unprecedented insight and accuracy.
